Lopez said J&J's proposed settlement did not have sufficient support from women who alleged J&J products caused their cancer. It also went too far in releasing legal claims against entities that had not filed for bankruptcy themselves, including retailers that sold J&J products and Kenvue, a consumer health business that J&J spun off in 2023.J&J stopped selling talc-based baby powder in the U.S. in 2020, switching to a cornstarch product. Before its third bankruptcy attempt, which sought to settle claims that its talc products caused ovarian and other gynecological cancers, J&J had separately settled lawsuits alleging that they caused mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer associated with asbestos exposure.J&J had estimated that ovarian cancer patients would receive between $75,000 and $150,000 under the settlement, although the exact amounts depended on the severity of a patient's injury and the number of current and future claims that were ultimately covered by the settlement.J&J faces lawsuits from over 60,000 claimants alleging that its baby powder and other talc products contained asbestos and caused ovarian cancer.
PSC AMGI says J&P Capital’s missed deadline cost them $80,000 in their insurance broking dispute
A missed deadline has cost J&P Capital Insurance an $80,000 payout, after the Federal Court ruled on September 3, 2025, that the company failed to hand over key business assets on time in a deal with PSC AMGI WSC.Here’s what happened: In September 2023, PSC AMGI WSC Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of PSC Insurance Group Limited, entered into an agreement to buy J&P Capital Insurance Pty Ltd’s general insurance broking business and certain associated assets. The assets included four mobile phone numbers (with SIM cards), the company’s email domain, and its website.By November 2023, disputes had already arisen about whether J&P Capital had properly transferred all the required assets. Both sides ended up in the Federal Court. On March 25, 2025, they signed a Deed of Settlement to resolve the dispute. The Deed was clear: J&P Capital had seven days to transfer the Remaining Assets to PSC AMGI.The SIM cards were not delivered until April 2, 2025 - one day after the deadline. Information needed to transfer the phone numbers and the domain was not provided until April 4, 2025. J&P Capital argued that they had done everything required and that the forfeiture clause was unfair and should be set aside as a penalty.

Red River Talc LLC, a J&J subsidiary, was seeking confirmation of a proposed prepackaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan that would have been one of the biggest mass tort settlements in history, if approved. Red River and J&J proposed to pay $9 billion to settle ovarian cancer and other gynecological cancer litigation claims based on talc-related products. But Judge Christopher Lopez of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston division said in a court filing that J&J used a faulty voter solicitation process when dealing with personal injury claimants.J&J said in a statement that it will not pursue an appeal, and instead will return to the civil law system “to litigate and defeat these meritless talc claims.” It will also reverse about $7 billion of a previous reserve. The company said that it has settled 95% of filed mesothelioma lawsuits, concluded all state consumer protection claims, and all talc-supplier disputes. Last year a subsidiary of J&J proposed to pay approximately $6.48 billion over 25 years as part of a settlement in the U.S.
If you’ve ever billed for an injection, chemotherapy drug, or biologic, you’ve probably run into J codes. And if you’ve ever gotten a claim denial because of one, you know just how picky payers can be about them.
This means linking your J code to the correct ICD-10 diagnosis code. · Example: For rheumatoid arthritis, you might use M06.9. If this link is missing or incorrect, you’ll likely get a “lack of medical necessity” denial. This is where it all comes together. Your claim should include:Submit it electronically and review it before sending. One missing piece (like NDC or unit count) can cause your claim to be denied, which means more work and slower payment. If you want to make J-code billing a non-issue in your practice, here’s what works:At Swiftcare Billing, we live and breathe this stuff, so you don’t have to. Our team handles the details—units, NDCs, clean claims—so you get paid faster, stay compliant, and keep your focus where it belongs: patient care. First Nations may authorize a representative to submit a funding application on their behalf. As part of our work on specific claims, lawyers at JFK Law advise clients on obtaining funding or financing for specific claims.
Negotiation stage: First Nations or their representative may apply for federal loans of up to $200,000 per claim.[18] If Canada agrees, the loans can be renewed yearly for up to six years.[19] The amount of negotiation loan funding depends on how much funding is available, what the funding will pay for, the First Nation’s estimated costs, limits set by the federal government, and financial reports.[20] First Nations may also be able to submit supplementary funding requests, especially when aspects of a joint work plan are uncertain at the beginning of the year.[21] Certain provinces, such as Ontario, also have funding programs for claim negotiations.Insurance companies are now offering to insure specific claim loans, meaning First Nations can access capital to advance their claims even without having one of the typical types of security such as off-reserve personal property. If the claim is unsuccessful or the settlement reached is too low to repay the loan in full, the insurance policy will step in to repay the loan. JFK regularly assists First Nation clients in this process on obtaining private claim financing.Building a strong claim with robust research: We work with experts, such as historians, to help First Nations to conduct historical research and prepare their claim through our deep knowledge of historical documentation, legal requirements, and federal policies, and claims drafting and submission. Advising before, during, and after negotiations to maximize settlements: We provide support throughout the negotiation process from planning to settlement, deploying creative solutions to reach just outcomes that benefit communities.[22] Canada, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, Funding for First Nations with claims at the Specific Claims Tribunal of Canada (Ottawa: Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, 2020). ... TROY, Mich.: 18 March 2025 — A homeowners insurance property claim should be a moment-of-truth opportunity when insurers make good on their coverage promises to their customers, but instead it has increasingly become a pain point. According to the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Property Claims Satisfaction Study,SM released today, the sheer volume of catastrophic events, history of widespread premium increases and slow repair cycle times have conspired to strain customer satisfaction with the homeowners insurance claims experience.Property Claims Satisfaction Study,SM released today, the sheer volume of catastrophic events, history of widespread premium increases and slow repair cycle times have conspired to strain customer satisfaction with the homeowners insurance claims experience. “There were 27 catastrophic events in 2024 and 28 the year before. Homeowners insurers are currently losing roughly one nickel on every dollar of premium they collect, and with total cost of events like the California wildfires still being assessed, there seems to be no end in sight,” said Mark Garrett, director of insurance intelligence at J.D.The study measures satisfaction with the property claims experience among insurance customers who have filed a claim for property damages across eight core dimensions (listed in order of importance): fairness of the claim settlement; level of trust; time it took to settle the claim; people; digital channels; communicated with me how and when I want; ease of starting the claim process; and ease of resolving the claim. The study is based on responses from 5,178 homeowner insurance customers who filed a claim within the previous nine months. The study was fielded from January 2024 through December 2024.Power. “Customers are, in essence, paying higher prices for slower service. The average claimant does not receive final payment on a claim until 44 days after the first notice of loss, and unless insurers are communicating frequently and clearly along the way, customer satisfaction suffers.”

The settlement would have ended the lawsuits and prevented such instances in the future. J&J plans to "return to the tort system to litigate and defeat these meritless talc claims", and does not plan to appeal the ruling.(Reuters) -Shares of Johnson & Johnson fell more than 5% on Tuesday after a U.S. bankruptcy judge rejected its $10 billion proposal to end tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging that its baby powder and other talc products cause ovarian cancer. This is third time that the healthcare conglomerate's bankruptcy strategy has failed in court. It faces lawsuits from more than 60,000 claimants alleging its baby powder and other talc products contained asbestos and caused ovarian cancer."Considering this was our best and final offer, we are reversing $7 billion in the reserve previously held for the bankruptcy plan," J&J Chief Financial Officer Joe Wolk said. The company has claimed that its products are safe, do not contain asbestos and do not cause cancer.Opponents of the deal, including attorneys for some cancer victims and a government bankruptcy watchdog, have argued the third bankruptcy, like the first two, should be dismissed as J&J is not in "financial distress".
